For senior school students and incoming fresh students, summer school offers the chance to work ahead and earn credits toward graduation requirements. Students might be able to enroll in a class they otherwise couldn't the following year, or they might get the study hall they need during a particularly difficult semester when they otherwise wouldn't.

Although a full semester is covered in three weeks, there is still a lot to cover each day, and teachers have more freedom to design lessons without bells interrupting them. Everyday homework outside of class should be anticipated by students.
